Sonja Bednar

The Story of an Artist .

It all began in the mid 1980s, when Sonja Bednar became very fascinated by the art of the impressionist and post-impressionist period. She was so passionate about it that she painted the great works of the famous artists. Among them were works by Renoir, Gauguin, Degas, van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Modigliani and Klimt. Although it was a hobby at that time, she was already able to sell a few works in her close and wider circle of friends - and many were impressed by her creative skills.

But she was not only creative in this hobby: In the 90s she was increasingly engaged as a make-up artist. So it came that she established herself more and more in the Swiss model industry. As a result, a few years later she ran her own model agency together with her husband, a fashion and event photographer, for almost 20 years. Although the painting was left behind during this time, she could gain a lot of memories with the model agency, which was captured on many beautiful photographs. However, when Sonja's husband Vladimir died unexpectedly in March 2015, she decided with a heavy heart to close the agency.

Since 2018 the Zurich based artist has returned to her career as an artist - now full-time and on a professional basis. Today she does not only paint works of famous artists, she also creates her own pieces and can now show her personal artistic signature. Her current art collection expresses a style that is modern, feminine, very strong and sensitive at the same time. Sonja: "Some works remind me of the time of the model agency." However, she does not want to focus only on this style. Besides her personal works she also creates many paintings on request. Whether it was a picture of a vacation in Cuba which she was asked to paint or artistic paintings of buildings for a real estate company.

If you are interested in one of her finished works (Classics, New Selection or Bespoke) or if you have a specific request how your painting should look like, do not hesitate to contact the artist directly through the “get in touch” form.
